Description

The OUTEQ FL9 is a rechargeable handheld flashlight with nine light sources: eight high-power LEDs in a ring produce a wide flood beam, while the central source concentrates a beam into the distance. Holding the button switches between a spot beam reaching up to 250 metres, a flood beam of up to 4,200 lumens, and a combination of the two. It runs on a replaceable 21700 cell and charges over USB-C directly in the body.

Key features

  • Eight high-power LEDs and a central source: wide light for your whole surroundings and a concentrated beam into the distance in one body.
  • Three light modes under one button: holding it switches a spot beam reaching up to 250 metres, a flood beam, and their combination.
  • Three brightness levels, strobe and SOS: from dimmed light to full output and signalling, with memory of the last level used.
  • USB-C charging directly in the body: the reversible connector plugs in even in the dark, and a full charge takes roughly 4 hours.
  • Replaceable 21700 cell: when it wears out, you replace the battery itself, not the whole flashlight.

Features

Eight LEDs for coverage, a central source for distance

The front optic consists of eight 5 W high-power LEDs arranged in a ring around a single 10 W central source. The ring of eight LEDs produces a wide flood beam of up to 4,200 lumens that lights up the whole area in front of the flashlight at once, while the central source concentrates light into a narrow cone for looking into the distance. Combining the two source types solves the situation where one flashlight has to cover close-up work and checking a distant spot alike, for instance on a night patrol of a property or searching in the field. The light has a cool white tint, which raises contrast at long range but looks colder than warmer light when working up close.

Spot beam, flood, or both

Holding the button switches the flashlight between three light modes. Spot mode engages the central source and concentrates the light up to 250 metres, though at a considerably lower output of around 600 lumens, because the light goes into a narrow angle instead of across an area. Flood mode lights the eight LEDs in the ring and delivers up to 4,200 lumens across a wide spread, which suits lighting up a yard, a campsite or a work area. Focus Flood mode engages both sources at once and holds up to 4,100 lumens, so you keep an overview of your surroundings as well as of more distant points. A short press cycles three brightness levels within each mode: Low, Medium and High. A double press takes the flashlight into Strobe and another double press into SOS for signalling; after switching off it remembers the last brightness level used and returns to it the next time you switch on.

Replaceable 21700 cell

Power comes from a single 21700 Li-ion cell with a declared capacity of 3,000 mAh (3.7 V, 11.1 Wh), included in the box. The battery is not sealed into the body, so after years of charge cycles you replace the cell itself and the flashlight keeps serving. For a longer trip without access to electricity you can take a charged spare cell and swap it in the field within moments, which is not possible with flashlights that have a permanently built-in battery. The difference shows mainly with regular use, as cell capacity gradually drops after hundreds of charge cycles.

USB-C charging

The flashlight charges directly in the body through a USB-C connector, with no need to remove the battery. The connector is reversible, so you plug the cable in either way round even in the dark, and a rubber flap protects it, which you flip open before charging. The 5V⎓1A input works out to a full charge in roughly 4 hours; a phone adapter, a power bank, a car charger or a laptop USB port all serve as the source. The port works only as an input for charging the flashlight – it cannot charge other devices.

Aluminium body, dimensions and IPX4 rating

The body is 6063 aluminium alloy with ribbing behind the head, which draws heat away from the LEDs and gives the flashlight stiffness for outdoor use. At 138.4 mm long, with a 50 mm head diameter and a weight of 196 g including the battery, the flashlight is operated one-handed and fits into a jacket pocket or the side pocket of a backpack. The IPX4 rating covers splashing water from any direction, so the flashlight handles rain and wet terrain. It is not protection against submersion, however, and the letter X in the rating means dust protection is not assessed at this level – worth bearing in mind for longer work in heavily dusty environments.

Frequently asked questions

Your most common questions.

Is the flashlight waterproof?

The flashlight is rated IPX4 – splashing water from any direction, rain and wet terrain are no problem.

It is not meant for submersion; the letter X in the rating means dust protection is not assessed at this level.

How does the flashlight charge?

Through the reversible USB-C connector directly in the body, with no need to remove the battery. A phone adapter, a power bank, a car charger or a laptop USB port (5V⎓1A input) is all it takes – a full charge takes roughly 4 hours.

The port only charges the flashlight; it cannot charge other devices.

Can I replace the battery?

Yes. Inside is a standard replaceable 21700 Li-ion cell with a capacity of 3,000 mAh, and one is included in the box.

For a longer trip you can take a charged spare cell and swap it in the field within moments.

What lighting modes does it have?

Three light modes switched by holding the button: Spot reaching up to 250 m, Flood with up to 4,200 lm, and Focus Flood using both sources at once.

A short press cycles three brightness levels – Low, Medium, High – and a double press gives Strobe and SOS. The flashlight remembers the last brightness level used.
