The light comes from a single high-power LED drawing 12 watts. Its 780-lumen output lights the whole area around you, not just a narrow cone at your feet, and the 160-metre beam is the distance at which, in high mode, you can make out the edge of a plot, a line of trees or the far end of a hall. Runtime is roughly 3 hours per charge and varies with the mode: high drains the cell fastest, while dimmed modes run considerably longer. For a night walk with the dog, checking the cellar or walking an unpaved road, low or medium is enough – full output is for when you need to see into the distance.

Five modes and one-button control
The flashlight offers five modes: low, medium, high, strobe and SOS. A single button on the side of the head cycles through them, pressed with the thumb of the hand holding the light, so one hand is enough even with gloves on. A double click skips the whole cycle and jumps straight to high. Dimmed modes suit reading a map or moving around camp, where full output dazzles and needlessly drains the cell. Strobe and SOS are not everyday lighting modes, but they earn their place in the car or a day pack, where they serve to draw attention and to signal.

Magnetic base for hands-free work
The base holds a magnet, so the FL6 sticks to a car bonnet, a sheet-metal cabinet, a steel shelf or a jack. The light then points exactly at the repair while both hands stay on your tools. It changes work under the bonnet, in the garage or inside a distribution box most of all – places where there is nowhere to put a light down. The magnet holds on ferromagnetic metal, meaning steel and cast iron.

Aluminium body and IP44 rating
The body is anodised aluminium alloy. The metal draws away the heat generated in the head at full output, which is why a HOT warning sits on the head: after extended use in high mode the surface around the reflector gets hot and the light is better held by the body. Knurling on the middle section improves grip even with a gloved or wet hand. The IP44 rating protects the electronics against dust and splashing water, so rain or snow will not harm the light while you work outdoors. It is not protection against immersion, though – the light does not belong underwater or under a strong jet. For ordinary outdoor use, the garage and the workshop, this rating is sufficient.

USB-C charging and a replaceable 18650 cell
The USB-C charging connector sits under a cover in the body of the light, so the battery stays in place while charging. It charges from the same adapter as your phone or from a USB port on a computer; the input is 5V⎓1A and a USB-C to USB-C cable is included. The cover also protects the connector from dust and moisture when you carry the light in a pocket or backpack. Inside sits one replaceable 18650 Li-ion cell with a capacity of 2,200 mAh (3.7 V, 8.14 Wh). It is not sealed into the body, so after years of charge cycles, as cell capacity gradually falls, you simply fit a new one and the light carries on.

Dimensions and everyday carry
The body measures 128 x 28 x 26 mm and weighs 138 grams. The light fits a jacket pocket, the side pocket of a backpack or a car cubby, where it takes up no room and is at hand the moment you need it. The body diameter suits one-handed use, leaving your other hand free for tools, keys or a dog lead. A clip is included so you can attach the light to a pack strap, a trouser pocket or a belt. The light stays within reach and you do not have to dig it out of the bottom of your pack every time you put it down and pick it up again.
