Description

The OUTEQ FL1 is a handheld rechargeable flashlight built for long throw. A powerful reflector concentrates the light into a narrow beam reaching over 600 metres, complemented by a wider spill that lights up your immediate surroundings. Output and throw were confirmed by independent testing to the ANSI FL1 standard, so the figures on the box match how the light actually behaves.

Key features

  • The rated 5,000 lm and 600 m beam were confirmed by an independent ANSI FL1 test, which measured 5,686 lm and 602 m.
  • It runs on four replaceable 18650 cells, so a worn-out battery does not mean the end of the flashlight.
  • It charges over USB-C and its battery pack will also top up your phone in the field.
  • Six modes from Low to Turbo cover map reading as well as signalling with strobe or SOS.
  • The aluminium body with IP44 rating shrugs off rain, snow and dust.

Features

Independently verified output

For the FL1, the 5,000 lm output and 600 m beam are actually measured figures. In Turbo mode, testing recorded 5,686 lm after 30 seconds of operation and a 602-metre beam at 90,535 cd, measured on a calibrated integrating sphere to the ANSI FL1 standard. The measured values match the stated ones or slightly exceed them, which is rather the exception in this class of flashlight. So the claim of over 600 metres rests on real measurement, not just a number on the box.

Six lighting modes

The flashlight offers six lighting modes: Low, Medium, High, Strobe, SOS and Turbo. A single side button cycles through them with repeated presses, and a double press jumps straight to Turbo. The dimmed Low and Medium modes suit reading a map or moving around camp, where full output would dazzle, while Turbo is meant for maximum reach. Strobe and SOS are for signalling – calling for help, for example, or increasing your visibility.

Aluminium body and IP44 rating

The body is aluminium alloy with an anodised finish. The metal helps dissipate the heat that builds up at the reflector head at full output, which is why a HOT warning on the head flags the hot surface after extended use in higher modes. The IP44 rating protects the electronics against splashing water and dust, so the light copes with work in rain, snow and dusty conditions. It is not protection against immersion, though, so the flashlight does not belong underwater or under a strong jet of water.

USB-C charging and power bank function

The FL1 charges in the body itself through a USB-C connector, so you never have to remove the batteries. The 5V⎓1A input means a full charge takes roughly 9 hours, so it pays to charge ahead of a longer outing. The same battery pack doubles as a power bank: over USB-C you can top up a phone or another USB device in the field when there is no socket around. A cover seals the port against dust and splashing water.

Replaceable 18650 batteries

Power comes from four 18650 batteries with a capacity of 2,200 mAh per cell, supplied in the box. Unlike lights with a permanently built-in battery that cannot be replaced, the FL1 lets you swap the cells for new ones over time, so the lifespan of the whole light is not dictated by one non-removable battery ageing. That matters most with regular use, when cell capacity gradually declines after hundreds of charge cycles. The 18650 is also a widespread battery type, so spare cells are easy to buy and capacity easy to restore without purchasing a new flashlight.

Frequently asked questions

Your most common questions.

How long does it last per charge?

It depends on the mode. Independent measurement to the ANSI FL1 standard showed roughly 12 h 43 min in Medium, about 4 h 07 min in High and about 1 h 55 min in Turbo.

Dimmed modes therefore suit long runtimes, while Turbo is for short bursts of distance lighting. You also charge the light over USB-C directly in the body, without removing the batteries.

Is the flashlight waterproof?

It is rated IP44, which protects the electronics against splashing water and dust – the light copes with work in rain, snow and dusty conditions.

It is not protection against immersion, though, so the light does not belong underwater or under a strong jet of water.

How does it charge?

Through the USB-C connector in the body itself – you do not have to remove the batteries. The 5V⎓1A input means a full charge takes roughly 9 hours, so it pays to charge ahead of a longer outing.

The same port works in reverse – the light doubles as a power bank, so you can charge a phone or another USB device in the field.
